September 27th, 2008Tips For Soccer Moms And Dads

We have heard the term “Soccer Moms”. They have kids who play soccer. One would envision mothers anxiously running their children errands in minivans or SUVs while chatting on their cell phones, waiting to pick up their children from soccer practice. God bless them all. This term has also been extended to dads as well, who perform the same “function”. Well done!

Here are some tips for those parents whose children are involved in youth soccer:

Ensure that you child is well rested and adequately fit before bringing him/her to soccer practice or competition game. Because rest and fitness plays an important role in children involved in strenuous activities, as fatigue will increase the chance of injury on the field.

It is best that your child does not eat before a game to avoid cramps.

Ensure that your child takes in adequate fluids, as in any sports your child will loss fluids due to sweating, especially on a hot day.

Make sure your he/she gets adequate warms ups before a game.

Ensure that you as a parent observe good game conduct during a match. I sure you have seen parents screaming and shouting at their kids or the referee, screaming instructions to their kids from the benches. First off I don’t think junior can hear you and secondly its down right distracting for the children on the field.

If by any chance you child happens to be the losing team, show that you care with encouragement and a listening ear. Don’t leave it as it is, children have feelings too. Never lecture or nag at your child at how he should have won the game or compare.

If you do not know any thing about soccer, its best to do some research or reading up on the matter. It helps when he/she talk or discusses soccer with you. Its good for bonding and maybe you’ll stop argue with the referee ;)

Show genuine interest and be your child’s best supporter.

Its a sport with a lot of names : football (most of the world), soccer (US and Australia), the beautiful game (Pele) and increasingly known as ‘The World Game’. But whatever you call it there is also a lot of debate as to where soccer was invented. Lets have a closer look.

Was it invented in China?

There are many accounts from Ancient China of early forms of soccer. It is impossible to know who invented the sport in China, but there are accounts of something very similar being played in China in as early as 2 BC. This early form of the game involved kicking a leather ball into a net. A similar game is known to have been played in ancient Japan, as well as being played by Native Americans. Many argue that these early forms of soccer, though, are not what influenced the game we play today as they did not spread from their home country.

What about Europe?

Much like China and Japan, early forms of soccer were played in Europe also. Again, it is impossible to pinpoint any individuals. Soccer was played during the Middle Ages, with neighboring villages playing games against each other. These soccer games resembled the type of games we see now in playgrounds, with unlimited players on each team, and an ‘anything goes approach’ to the rules and what to use as a ball. The players worked together to move the ball towards a landmark, rather than a goal, but was starting to show signs of the game we play today.

The Individuals Who Played a Role

An Eton student during the 16th century called Richard Mulcaster did a lot of writing on the sport. Many believe that it is these writings that set up the organized rules of the game. A schoolmaster called J.C. Thring also had a hand in the evolution of the game, and helped to set up rules at the school where he worked. These rules, called the Uppingham Rules, standardized the game (each school had been playing with its own rules), and Thring is believed to be one of the individuals who invented modern soccer.

September 26th, 2008Soccer Goals

In the game of soccer the most important part of the game is the soccer goal. This is the area that can decide the fate of the game and who is the winning team. Now even though this is a very important part of the game we seldom think about the role of the soccer goal. So what exactly does the soccer goal do for the game?

Well you might think that this is a ridiculous question to be asking but do you know the answer? Many of you will say that soccer goal is what happens when a scoring goal is made but is that really true? I think that we need to examine this very carefully. For instance I say that a soccer goal is the term that should be used for the goal posts and the areas in front of the soccer goal.

There we have our answer of what a soccer goal really is. This is the term that is used to indicate the area where each soccer team must try to hit their soccer balls to. This area will be guarded by the goal keeper. This individual has the job of making sure that the other team’s soccer ball does not manage to make it past him and roll into the soccer goal area.

Now if this area is very important in the game why isn’t this section more heavily guarded? The reasons is because most of the time the soccer ball is being passed among the teams who are in the middle of the soccer field. When the ball finally comes into the part of the soccer goal your team mates will be there to try and prevent the soccer ball from entering their soccer goal posts. The ultimate defense for the team will be carried out by the goal keeper.

So besides having this importance in the soccer games, why do we see soccer goal posts for sale in the various sports store? Well the answer is again simple - in the soccer fields where there are no soccer goal posts set up these soccer goal posts are needed. That is why you will find soccer goal posts for sale as part of the needed soccer gear.

Without soccer goals we would not be able to marvel at he skill and agility of the goal keeper as he dives in various directions to keep the other team’s soccer ball from scoring a point for them. So the next time that you go to a soccer team remember to look at the soccer goal posts and see all the trouble that everyone goes to score a little ball into their midst.

September 26th, 2008Soccer Games

We may know someone who loves to play soccer. This enthralling game has many people in its grasp. You will find that there are many stores that stock various items for soccer. There is also another side to soccer that few of us are aware of. This is the world of soccer games. While many of you are probably thinking about how many ways soccer can be played, there are others of you who may be lost.

Well for all of you I will invite you into a journey into the world of soccer games. Our first stop is that of the internet. Here in your favorite search engine type out soccer games and see what you can catch. You will soon see that as far as the internet and other companies are concerned soccer games means games that can be played by individuals in a variety of ways – just not the way that you had imagined.

There are the old fashioned table soccer games where two people control a team of “soccer players”. These little figures are controlled by rods and you use these rods to move your team in order to block the soccer ball from entering your team goal zone.

While there maybe some people who like to play these soccer games many people prefer the more high tech soccer games that you can buy. These games can be video games or 3D interactive soccer games. Now in the video games you select the game that you want to play and decide what your skill level is. The next item that you will decide is your team. For this you will have a list of soccer teams where you can be a part of the team.

The next step in these video soccer games is to use your character to defeat the opposing team. The level of realism in these games will depend on the various type of game that you select. In interactive 3D games you become part of the game itself. Here you are a member of a soccer team and you are in a soccer match with them. In this type of soccer games you experience all of the joys and defeats of your team.

So the next time that you look for soccer games instead of looking towards the soccer field you might want to look in your toy store or electronic game store for some soccer games for you to try out and become a part of the soccer world.
